Bahrain announces four investment projects across key economic

Bahrain has announced four investment projects with a combined stated value of $3.89 billion. The projects cover aviation logistics, real estate and technology.

The announcement came during Gateway Gulf 2026, an investment forum hosted by the Bahrain Economic Development Board. The event brought together more than 200 senior officials, business leaders and investors.

The projects aim to strengthen Bahrain’s position as a regional centre for business and investment.

DHL plans aircraft maintenance facility in Bahrain

One of the projects involves DHL. The company plans to establish a regional aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at Bahrain International Airport.

The facility will support DHL’s growing aircraft operations. It will also add maintenance capacity for the company’s regional and international activities.

The project could strengthen Bahrain’s role in aviation logistics. It may also create opportunities for skilled workers and aviation service providers.

Capital A plans new aviation ventures

Capital A, the parent company of AirAsia, will lead three aviation ventures.

These plans aim to improve air connections between Bahrain, the Far East and Europe. They also include plans to expand air cargo operations.

Another part of the programme will develop aircraft maintenance capabilities inside Bahrain.

Together, these ventures could support the country’s ambition to become a regional aviation hub.

New hotel and residences planned for Amwaj

The investment package also includes a waterfront development on Amwaj Islands.

Meliá and Infracorp will work together on the project. Plans include a five-star hotel and residences under the Meliá brand.

The development will add to Bahrain’s premium hospitality and residential market.

It could also support tourism and create business opportunities for local suppliers and service providers.

Digital City Bahrain targets technology growth

The fourth project is Digital City Bahrain, a planned hub for information and communications technology.

The development aims to attract technology companies and support innovation and education. It will also provide infrastructure for businesses operating in the digital sector.

The project forms part of Bahrain’s wider effort to develop its technology economy.

However, the latest announcement does not provide a detailed construction timetable for every project.

Bahrain seeks more investment beyond oil

Bahrain continues to attract investment across industries beyond traditional energy.

The Bahrain Economic Development Board says non-oil activity accounts for around 86 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product.

The government wants to build on sectors such as financial services, tourism, logistics and technology.

Its Golden Licence programme supports large investment projects. The programme offers eligible investors easier access to government services and support for project development.

What the investment package means

The four projects cover several important parts of Bahrain’s economy.

Aviation projects could strengthen transport and cargo services. The hotel development could support tourism. Meanwhile, Digital City Bahrain could help attract technology businesses.

However, the announced $3.89 billion figure represents the combined stated value of the projects. The public announcement does not provide a detailed breakdown of the amount assigned to each project.

The announcement also does not establish how much of the total represents entirely new investment commitments.

The next important step will be the delivery of these projects. Their progress, investment timelines and job creation will show how much they contribute to Bahrain’s long-term economic plans.
